Road Trip – Day 4

Sorry I didn’t get this up last night…. I was too tired to post. All those late nights caught up with me I guess!

Anyway – Here is day 4!

We got up at 7:00 a.m. via alarm. (We can’t complain, this really is a work week for Matt – not vacation…)

Matt & I got showered, the kids got dressed, and we headed down to the hotel breakfast (where shirts & shoes are required – in case you are wondering… HUGE sign to let us know that.) It was very crowded, but we got everyone fed.

We then headed out to take the kids to their designated spots. The 3 boys were attending Vacation Bible School at one church, and Annika was going to the nursery – at another church… A bit inconvenient, but what they had set up. We were told it took 6 minutes each way to get to the church with VBS. We were a tad behind schedule (partly normal for us, and partly because breakfast was so busy.) Well… It took 15 minutes each way to get to the VBS church.. (it was clear across town with stop lights etc.) Then we got Annika dropped off, and ended at the conference about 45 min. late – such is life.

Then, 2 hours later it was time to pick everyone up again for lunch. I was a bit upset with the nursery because I asked them to give Annika her bottle at 10:30 and they didn’t – so she wasn’t exactly happy.

We got back to the convention and stood in the long line for our pre-paid $50 lunch ($10 per plate – kids and all) – which was pizza & salad. I think next year we will try to eat on our own instead of at the conference… We could have ordered pizza for our family for under $30.

Next…. Our 30 minute round trip back to drop the boys off at VBS. I decided to keep Annika with me at this point. We headed up to the hotel room (It is really nice to have the conference in the same building as our hotel this year) and she took a nap. When she was done napping I just brought her into the conference with me and that worked out okay.

At 4:30 it was another trip to go pick up the boys. They ask you to pick up your kids promptly, so we were constantly leaving the conference early in order to get to our kids on time.

Next was a failed trip to Target. I wanted to pick up some more formula and possibly an umbrella stroller. However, as I was walking into Target the Tornado Sirens were going off…. So when I got to the door I was informed I could go straight to their shelter, or I could leave. Well, I didn’t necessarily want to be stuck in their shelter with who knows how may people for who knows how long… (and there was no tornado coming down from the sky…) And my family and another family was waiting for me in the parking lot… so I returned back to the car empty handed.

The other family waiting for me, were friends from college and seminary, and their son is our Godson and they are Ryan’s Godparents. We hadn’t seen them for probably 6-7 years, so we wanted to have dinner together. They have 3 boys and with our 3 boys – it was a LOT of boys! (poor Annika… ha ha – I don’t think she cared.) We decided instead of making them sit at a restaurant we’d just hit Burger King and let them play in the playland. Burger King was still open (they looked at us like we were nuts when we asked them if they were still open.) Maybe they were clueless the tornado sirens were going off? So the kids played (and we watched for tornadoes – although it never did really storm – but did look dark in th other direction).

We got back to the hotel room around 6:45. The kids really wanted to swim, but Matt and I decided we were too tired to do that. They were sad, but survived. We did baths and while Ryan was in the bath Annika and I snuggled into my bed and zonked out. Everyone was asleep by 8:00.

Here ends day 4. : )
