From Complacency to Purposeful
com⋅pla⋅cen⋅cy – [kuhm-pley-suhn-see] – complacency
a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, deficiency or the like; self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, etc.
pur′·pose·ful – [pûr'pəs-fəl] – purposeful
directed toward a specific end; not meaningless – meaningful & intentional
Looking back on 2009 – I have been extremely complacent…
Complacent in:
- My relationship with God
- My relationship with my husband
- My relationship with my children
- My relationship with other family members
- My relationship with friends
- My business
- My finances
- My housework
- My health
Complacent is absolutely the best word that I can find to describe myself in 2009.
And oh… am I ready to change! This year, I am making it a goal to be purposeful in all I do.
I’m starting with my relationships with God & my husband and moving forward from there. May my time not be idol, but be used to renew & restore relationships, & habits. It is my goal to continually ask myself – is this task improving my relationship with God, my husband, my children, my family, my friends, or helping my business, finances, housework or health. If not… time to STOP and re-focus!
Goodbye Complacency, Hello Purpose!
May 2010 be a GREAT & Purposeful year!

You just said what I have been thinking. From my relationship with God, to my husband and family. I just rejoined the health club today and am going to go sit down and actually read the chapter I need to for small group tomorrow night. I’ll pray that your commitment to purpose will be as consistent and I want mine to be.

Great post Christine! I’m right there with you. I was way to complacent about so many things in my life over 2009 but most importantly my relationship with God. I set goals to change that this year (as well as many other things).

That is my resolution for the new year too!
