Fresh Turkey
Oh my it was an interesting day… (no I’m still not done with my lefse!) We were going to finish up the lefse making, but first my husband had a meeting scheduled with a couple from church. When they arrived, they said “We just wanted to bring you a gift” and proceeded to place a very large box in his office. It wasn’t long before we realized this box had an animal inside. Matt opened it up, & it was a huge LIVE turkey!
That thing frightened me a bit…
Thankfully, the couple who brought it stayed to help prepare it – because we had no clue what to do with it. Thankfully, it was too cold for Annika to be outside, so I had to stay inside with her while he was being taken care of. He ended up weighing 35.2 pounds. We were debating on whether to cook it, or freeze it and have it for Christmas. We finally decided to cook it because I couldn’t imagine trying to store & defrost a 35 pound turkey. It BARELY fit in my oven… The rack was on the lowest setting (& it was bending) and it had about an inch to spare on the top and sides.
We aren’t planning on being home tomorrow for Thanksgiving, so we ate it tonight & froze the rest. We ended up with 11 freezer bags full for later! It was definitely, ahem, an experience!
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow!
