And Life Goes On

Hey there, it’s me! How are you? Personally, I’m exhausted and should be in bed, but I REALLY wanted to get a post up today and I still have 30 minutes before it’s tomorrow to make that goal. : )

So here is the excitement of the day yesterday…. We (my husband, myself, and the baby) were on the road that goes around the mall and Matt turned left into the left lane as you are supposed to do. When he turned no one was coming. He then proceeded to move over to the right lane because he wanted to turn right. Well, out of no where (well, obviously he came from somewhere, but you get the picture) came a speeding car passing on the right. And here is the result:

Boo Hoo my 6 month old car has an owie! The good news is that everyone was okay. Annika slept through the entire thing. The kid (who was born in 1991 by the way – seriously I am starting to feel really old – kids born in 1991 are old enough to drive? Yeah… he was 18 afterall.) said he thought he was going about 40 mph (I believe it is posted 15 mph on that road) and was driving his girlfriend’s car… yeah, we wished him luck on that relationship. Unfortunately, the mall is private property so the police would not come to the scene to write a report, and there were no witnesses, so we are on his word v.s. our word when it comes to the insurance. I went searching for the money tree in my backyard after just paying our taxes, trying to save for vacation, and now paying a $1000 deductible… But like I said I am just thankful everyone was okay.

In other news, I got most of my garden planted. I’m still waiting for part of it to get tilled so I can plant the pumpkins and spaghetti squash, but the carrots, radishes, cucumber pickles, zuchini, onions, beans, and peppers are in. The raspberries and strawberries are also going strong.

Dane had his last day of preschool today. He has now officially graduated to the 4 year old class (which he was apparently thinking started tomorrow… he doesn’t quite get the concept of summer break obviously.) He has actually been 4 since Oct. so he will be nearly 5 by the time it starts. They are so cute at this age! I just never know what he is going to say, but he is a great kid!

Ryan and Christian have 7 days left. I am sure summer will just zoom by since we will be gone for a full month of it! Can you say 6000 mile road trip with 4 kids? Yeah… I know… don’t ask me what I was thinking when we planned that… I am actually looking forward to school being out though – homework and getting everyone out the door in the morning is starting to wear on me. I’m ready for a break (yeah, ask me that again about 2 days into the break and I’ll probably tell you they can go back to school.)

At any rate, currently the days are full with end of the year stuff and baseball…. The boys are actually going to miss half of the season do to our vacation, but I am pretty sure by then we will have had our fill anyway! Here they are in their uniforms on opening day. Matt really likes their hats as they sport his initials on them. MS (really stands for Milford Sheldon).

Well, my half an hour is up, and it is now tomorrow… so I guess I need to jump into bed and drag my yo-yoing husband (yes he is playing with a yo-yo) with so I can wake up in 6 hours with the kiddo’s.

    Hi Christine,
I don’t normally leave comments on blogs or websites but felt compelled to tell you that it was great to hear honesty from another Mom. I am still in the workplace (my children came along when i was 38 & 42!) and find that my colleagues and office mates who are childless cannot relate to my struggles as a mother at all. Most of my friends who are my age have kids that are grown and grandkids too, so it is nice for me to hear accounts of others who are in roughly the same place I am. My son is 6 and just finishing kindergarten and my daughter will turn 2 next month. Although I have never dealt with dyslexia personally, I have a cousin who did and I know how challenged he felt. There is good help out there, it just doesn’t usually come from the conventional school system. Our teachers, God Bless them, are under so much pressure to teach to the “masses” that it just is not feasible to spend much extra time with children who do not learn in conventional ways.
Anyway, best of luck and thanks for sharing honestly.
